The Grey Area

Proverbs 10:17 – (NKJV) He who keeps instruction is in the way of life,

But he who refuses correction goes astray.

There are two types of people. One, the kind that believes that prevention is better than cure and that actually pays attention to do’s and don’t, and the other, well, the rest of us. The thing about this second category of people, is that they sometimes act arrogant, know-it-alls, and like when we were kids and after finishing a particularly difficult lesson we have this sense of accomplishment combined with needless pride and ‘we don’t need teachers anymore’ kind of feeling. Little did we know that algebra and calculus were waiting for us with arms wide open.

So today’s verse has a slightly different interpretation out of the NIV version which goes like this – “He who heeds discipline shows the way of life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment.”

“Instruction” and “discipline” are two concepts that are evolving faster than technology. I have realized that we currently live in a world where we kind of define our super flexible rules of right and wrong without realizing it or giving it a second thought because of our busy schedules.

It takes 21 days to form a habit or to lose one . If we don’t consciously prioritize our life the way we want it, then we knowingly or unknowingly end up making different uses of the time we get. To put it in terms of you and I, as per the Bible there’s either a right or a wrong, let’s say a black and a white, and we do a little mixing and subconsciously most of the time bring in a grey area into our life, both with our use of time and other decisions.

So today, as we get on our day let’s consciously examine our daily actions and look for any grey areas of our lives and ask ourselves:

Do I want it in black, white or grey?

And the rest is between you and God.

As the deer pants for the water
So my soul longs after you
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you

You alone are my strength, my shield
To you alone will my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire
And I long to worship you
